Class of 2023

Alex Aubin

As someone who is fueled by the advancement of those around me, I sought out a program at PittPharmacy that would surround me with my most assiduous and erudite peers. I am inspired by them everyday to work hard and explore new fields of pharmacy, and Scholars allows me to refine and apply my clinical skills to a myriad of different specialties on many interprofessional teams. The only way to know what you want to do is to try it all, and the students and faculty I work with her continue to introduce me to new opportunities.

Chad Beisel

I chose the Pharmacotherapy Scholars Program for unique opportunities to experience rigorous clinical rotations, conduct longitudinal research, and advance my professional development. I aspire to pursue post-graduate residency training at an academic medical center to develop into a proficient and independent clinical pharmacy specialist. The training offered by the program will facilitate the development of skills required to flourish in a competitive pharmacy residency program.

Jenn Chai

Throughout my time at Pitt Pharmacy, my main goal was to become a well-rounded student pharmacist who can make safe and confident recommendations. I chose to join the Pharmacotherapy Scholars program because it challenges students to expand their clinical breadth by offering mentorship, rigorous patient-care rotations, and the ability to network with professionals from different specialties. Through such opportunities, I aspire to enhance my skillset by taking part in challenging rotations and completing clinical outcomes research. I look forward to growing as a pharmacy professional with guidance from the program, as well as further develop valuable skills for post-graduate training.

Jocelyn Edwards

As a Pharmacotherapy Scholar, it is my goal to advance my clinical knowledge, research skills, and professionalism. This program offers opportunities that challenge me as an individual and clinician, and has extended my competency beyond the standard curriculum. After graduation, I plan to pursue a PGY1 and PGY2 residency and specialize in an area such as critical care or cardiology. I know that this experience will prepare me for my future endeavors, and ultimately enhance my delivery of patient care, as well as my academic contributions.

Lindsey Gibbon

During my first semester of pharmacy school I became aware of the vast benefits and experiences offered by the Pharmacotherapy Scholars ARCO. I was intrigued by the intensive clinical rotations, longunginal research project, and mentor program it offers to its students, truly providing the best resources for students to further develop as a clinical practitioner. I am excited to enhance and develop my skills this year and grow as a professional in the field of pharmacy. These skills will help to become a competitive applicant for residency post graduation.

Jaccie Hisashima

I chose to become a pharmacotherapy scholar to further advance my clinical knowledge. My first passion in pharmacy school was learning about ways to uplift underserved populations, leading me to join the Global Health ARCO. As didactic courses in pharmacy school progressed, I later realized my passion for direct patient care through interprofessional means, and the scholars program creates a space for you to work on those skills beyond what the core curriculum provides. My interests are still very broad, and I’m hoping my upcoming APPE rotations will allow me to explore and narrow down my passions as I think about future residency programs. Whether I’m learning in the neurotrauma ICU or the Windhoek Central Hospital in Namibia, I know that I’ll be using my knowledge from both ARCOs as I care for patients now and later in my career.

Samantha Hohmann

My name is Kenneth Richardson, a 4th year PharmD student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. I am a Georgia native and I earned my B.S. Biochemistry from Georgia Southern University. I currently work as a Pharmacy Intern at UPMC Community Pharmacies. I applied to the Pharmacotherapy Scholars Program because I wanted to undertake challenging clinical rotations, enhance proficiency in my patient care skills, and build upon my professional and leadership development to stand out as a future independent pharmacy practitioner. My short-term goals include pursuing 2-year postdoctoral residency programs and applying to either an MBA or MPH program potentially after completing my PGY2. I am interested in becoming a board-certified ambulatory care pharmacist and specializing in either general internal medicine, family medicine, cardiology, neuropsychiatry, or solid organ transplantation.
